Fondant Cut Out Cookies!

Katie has been in the kitchen for two nights now cutting out, baking and covering cookies for the Winter Guard this weekend. They have a competition and Katie wishes to let them know that she is cheering for them, even from a distance. Katie has been in Color Guard 7 out of the 8 semesters of high school. This winter season is the only time she has not participated. I'm pretty sure that she misses the activity of guard and the dancing aspect. The reason for not doing guard this winter isn't important anymore.

Usually you frost and add sprinkles on sugar cookies. That's the way I still like to do this. However, the girls have gained the talent for making them very professional by using fondant. But, the fondant isn't any ol' manufactured fondant. This fondant is made with marshmallows and powdered sugar! I'm not sure the recipe but I'll find out and post it later.

Here are a couple of photos of fondant covered cookies we have done in our house.

Wedding Flowers

So one of the tasks for the weekend was to meet with Kathy Lovelady and discuss the flowers and decorations for the wedding. Kathy is an awesome designer and is really good at what she does! Many times, I have volunteered to help Kathy arrange floral pieces and I have even dared a couple of bride's bouquet's. I love flowers! I also love to be creative, even though I am following a pattern. Last week, I helped Kathy do flowers for Bobbie and Garrett's wedding. Everything was red roses and it was beautiful!

In deciding on flowers, Elizabeth had her eyes set on white tulips or calla lilies. She wants to have all white flowers. When we arrived at Kathy's, she had set up a mock design of what the tables and centerpieces would look like. We loved it! The centerpieces will be tall square vases with white tulips on top. Kathy was worried how the tulips would last. I took this photo of the tulips on the third day. Still gorgeous!

Special Family Weekend

Last weekend was great! We were greatly anticipating the visit from Dave and Elizabeth, and to have Matthew home as well. This was our first time meeting Dave and it didn't take long to see that he fit right in. We could also tell how much he cared for Elizabeth and vice versa. Elizabeth has been sick and so we took the weekend as easy as possible. There were wedding plans to go over and decisions to make. Elizabeth did much resting, but also got at least two tasks done per day. They started with looking at
tuxes, tasting and ordering a cake. The wedding cake is coming from A Piece of Cake bakery, which is where Sarah works.

On Saturday morning, we had a very special trip to the Oakland temple. Sarah went to the temple for the first time for herself. How wonderful it was to have Matthew, Elizabeth and Dave be in attendance. We were blessed also to have Cheryl and Lonnie Smith join us. Cheryl was one of Sarah's first Young Women leaders. They have a special bond from those years in YW. There was a multi stake youth conference in Oakland that same day. Katie attended youth conference and went back home with us to have a family night dinner and games.

Dragging my feet. . . . .

Wow. This blogging thing can really get away from you. At first, I thought, no problem to post something at least once a week. Well look at the last date on this thing! Feb. 22 was more than three weeks ago! There have been several things happening in the last couple of weeks to keep me from this blog. However, I will do my best to catch up!
