Snow in California?........maybe.

Will it snow in California tomorrow?  Maybe.  Here is a photo of the weather forecast in the paper today.  I've never seen snow in the local forecast before.  We'll see if it really does.

Happy Birthday Katie Mae!

Today is Katie's birthday and so wanted to do a post about her today.  Elizabeth's birthday was last month, and so I will do a belated post soon.

Katie is a sweet spirit that arrived into our family when most needed.  Katie was the calmest baby, always satisfied, and not a complainer.  Life was almost too much for me about then, and when I needed solace, I would go pick up Katie, rock her and snuggle.

Katie was born 3 weeks early and still a good sized baby!  She weighed 8 lbs. 2 oz.  I really hadn't expected for her to come so soon.  I was scheduled to teach Joy School at my house the next day!  I woke during the night to use the bathroom, and my water broke just at that time.  That was the only time my water had broken and I managed to do a neat job of it!  That is a concern for most expecting mothers, "what if my water breaks while I am . . . .".  You can fill in the blanks.

Getting everyone settled at home, we headed for the hospital.  My labor wasn't very active so they hung a pitocin drip.  The nurses even ordered breakfast for Scott.  Things were still slow, but I could feel Katie really moving around, being very active.  When my doctor, Dr. Stephen Weinstein, came in a couple of hours later to check things out, he said, "where's the baby?"   What???   He couldn't feel her head anymore and was curious where she had gone.  It's funny now, but wasn't back then.

It was determined that Katie had moved about making herself transverse.  What is transverse?  Well her head was now under one side of my ribs and her feet were under the other set of ribs, lying crossways across my middle.  They could not get her to move and since Martha was a c-section, they decided to go that way again.  Then. . . . things started to move quickly!  Nurses were going in and out, the doctor left to go scrub, and the pediatrician was called.  Picking up and straddling the padding underneath me, I walked across the hall to the OR.  Getting prepped was much less intense than with Martha.  In a flash, there she was!  "It's a girl!"  I didn't know beforehand like they do these days.  I was so happy for this sweet, healthy baby girl!  I didn't know yet what a blessing this baby would be.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE!
