Punk Hair Rocks!

Evelyn loves taking a bath!  I think she just likes water--bathtub or beach.  After her bath this one morning, Elizabeth styled Evelyn's hair--looked kind of punk!  Below are the photos taken in order of this styling session!  Enjoy!

Meet Harold & Fred! I Almost Forgot About Them!

I almost forgot about Harold and Fred!  They are extremely important to the comfort of living in Hawaii!

Every evening, Harold shows up on the back patio to eat bugs!  He seems so dutiful about his job as he sits and waits for the bugs to be attracted by the light through the kitchen door.  I took this photo through the glass patio door and
surprised that it came out~

And, don't forget Fred!  Fred is so fast, the only photo I got of him was his scurrying down the kitchen wall and  behind the dishes in the drainer by the sink.  I just happened to have my camera in hand, and stood really still to get this shot!  While I was there, Elizabeth was in the bathroom and suddenly made a small scream.  Yep!  Fred simply let go of the ceiling and fell to the floor and ran off for cover!

Not pictured is George!  George is the gecko that lives on the outside of the house.  We caught him creeping down the patio door one evening after a moth.

Shipwreck Beach--On My Way Back Home--Day 7

On my last morning in Kauai, Elizabeth sent me down to a beautiful beach--Shipwreck Beach.  Dave and Elizabeth said that it is their favorite beach.  I have to say, it is a very beautiful spot.  I love the sound of the waves and the calming effect it has on me.

It was a wonderful week!  I huge thank you to the special friends that made it possible!

Waimea Canyon & Shave Ice--Day 6

This is my last full day with Elizabeth and her family.  I have grown very fond of sharing meals and playing with Evelyn.  Not that I am not fond of her parents, but Evelyn makes meals pretty sweet!  She is a very big girl feeding herself.  She is learning to sign "more" at the table.  The only thing I actually saw her make a funny reaction to, was a wedge of lime. . . .  Everything else, she ate with glee.

During the day, we went up to Waimea Canyon to see out over the canyon.  It was a drizzly day and when we arrived at the top, we could not see the canyon.  Maybe on my next visit.  We walked through the little museum there and learned about the canyon, it's creatures, and hurricanes that occurred on Kauai.

On the way back home, we stopped at a pottery shop and a spice store.  When we walked into the spice shop, you could taste the air.  I bought a couple of spice packs and split them with Elizabeth.  Our next stop was a shave ice shop.  When I came to Kauai, it was suggested that I relax and have a shave ice.  Well, I am happy to say that I did both.  You don't find guava or mango flavors at a son-cone place here.  Very refreshing and delicious!

Below are the fresh lychees.  Peel and eat!
Yummy!

Here we are at the top of the canyon at the lookout.  You can "see" that there are dense clouds hindering our vision of the canyon.

Nene are the state bird.  I didn't see any.

It was raining and we found this baby pheasant hiding under someone's car for protection.  There are many beautiful birds on Kauai.

I learned that Kauai is the home of the "original red dirt shirt".  The dirt was really red in color, and the dyed shirts come out a dark, rusty brown-red.

It was a great day!
